Do kittens and puppies have different nutritional needs than adult cats and dogs?

Animals who are growing and developing require a different diet than adult animals. Older animals also have unique needs, since aging affects their digestion and can cause vitamin deficiencies.

My cat eats several times a day. Is this normal?

Absolutely! Cats prefer small meals and can eat up to 15 times per day. It’s best to always have dry food available to your cat. More frequent eating is fine since they don’t eat the whole bowl like dogs, who should be fed twice per day.

Should I stop feeding my dog table scraps?

No matter how cute those puppy eyes are, you shouldn’t feed your dog human food. Some foods are hard to digest and others are actually dangerous—even poisonous—to dogs (chicken bones, chocolate, coffee, potatoes, nuts, raisins, onions, mushrooms, etc.) The salt, sugar and fat in certain foods can cause diarrhea or intolerance and lead to diabetes, obesity and some kinds of heart disease. But there are other options: you can still give your dog healthy treats while making sure they get the nutrients they need so they can live a long, healthy life.
